.--Surgery: Researching Your Surgeon

Before embarking on a major bariatric surgical procedure, we recommend that you research your surgeon thoroughly. It is your right to know as much possible about the tract record of your surgeon. We suggest submitting the following questionnaire in order to have the answers in writing:

·

How many operations have you performed?

·

What percentage of your practice is dedicated to bariatric surgery?

·

Please specify the type of operation performed (roux-en Y gastric bypass, gastric banding, vertical banded gastroplasty, duodenal switch, biliopancreatic bypass etc.)?

·

How many deaths within 60 days after surgery have you had in your entire series of bariatic procedures?

·

How many gastrointestinal leaks?

·

How many bowel obstructions requiring re-operation?

·

What is your percentage excess weight loss at five years?

·

Have you reported your experience in medical journals? If so, please provide references.

We would be glad to compare our experience with any information you have obtained from other bariatric surgeons.
